music ministry

THE MUSIC MINISTRY AT WOODLAWN BAPTIST CHURCH EXISTS TO PROVIDE VOCAL LEADERSHIP AND INSTRUMENTAL ACCOMPANIMENT IN A WAY THAT SUPPORTS AND ENCOURAGES CONGREGATIONAL SINGING DURING CORPORATE WORSHIP.

At our church, music ministry is rooted in Scripture and exists to glorify God and edify His people. Whether through the blended voices of a choir, the united sound of a worship team, or the simplicity of a single singer, each expression of music is directed toward honoring the Lord and strengthening the body of Christ.

Music serves as a means by which the Word of God is reinforced among us. As we sing, we rehearse biblical truth, teach and admonish one another, and encourage hearts to remain steadfast in faith. Our focus in worhship is not soley based on an emotional experience, but faithful worship shaped by Scripture and centered on God’s character and works.

Joining our music ministry offers a chance to serve others, grow spiritually, and be part of a vibrant community. Whether you're a seasoned musician or someone who loves to sing, your participation enriches our collective worship experience.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16

“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.”
Psalm 96:1

congregational singing

The primary purpose of the Music Ministry is to encourage congregational singing (Col. 3:16) through both traditional hymns and contemporary songs. Our aim is to limit potential distractions for the congregation as they focus their hearts and minds on exalting Christ together through song.

Focused preperation

On Sunday mornings from 8:45-9:30am, our ministry meets for rehearsal. The primary purpose of these times is to work through each song, making sure we can offer skillful accompaniment free of musical blunders, so that our congregation can worship without distraction on Sunday morning.

TRUE COMMUNITY

In the past our ministry has gathered for times of additional theological and musical equipping. These occasion have been held at a member's home and have included a time of teaching and discussion followed by  "jam sessions" where we informally enjoyed music together. These nights helped our ministry to become a true community that leads our church in worship each week.
